【2024.09.22】Five cooperation achievements were announced at the Beijing-Hong Kong Digital Economy Innovation and Development Forum

The "2024 Beijing-Hong Kong Digital Economy Innovation Development Forum" was held on 21 September. Experts from the digital economy sectors of both regions gathered to discuss hot topics such as cybersecurity, sharing and exploring new concepts, standards, and methods for digital security in light of trends in smart technology development. The event also featured the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between digital economy enterprises from Beijing and Hong Kong, among other achievements.

The event was jointly hosted by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Digital Policy Office, with the Beijing Software and Information Service Industry Association and the Hong Kong Software Industry Association as co-organizers. The theme was "Smart Initiatives: Building a New Paradigm for Digital Security."

Lillian Cheong, Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Technology and Industry in Hong Kong, shared the strategic layout for strengthening data elements and driving the development of artificial intelligence and the digital economy. She noted that the Hong Kong SAR Government launched the "Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint" at the end of 2022, emphasizing the development of the artificial intelligence and data science industries while promoting a comprehensive strategy to develop an AI ecosystem. Additionally, to coordinate AI development and security, the government plans to release a "Policy Declaration on Promoting Data Circulation and Ensuring Data Security" by the end of 2023, outlining specific actions to facilitate data circulation and strengthen data security measures. She expressed hope for closer cooperation and communication between Beijing and Hong Kong to jointly promote robust development in fields like artificial intelligence.

Su Guobin, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, stated that vigorously developing the digital security industry is a powerful means to drive high-quality digital economic development. Beijing aims to strengthen core technological innovations and enhance digital security governance and protective capabilities. He emphasized the need for both regions to fully leverage the platform of the Beijing-Hong Kong Forum to deepen comprehensive cooperation in digital economy, artificial intelligence, and digital security, promoting collaborative development and mutual advancement.

To activate new momentum for industrial development, leverage the combined advantages of both regions, and explore a new service ecosystem, the event announced five collaborative achievements in the digital economy between Beijing and Hong Kong. These included the launch of the Beijing-Hong Kong AI Application Accelerator initiated by Hong Kong Cyberport and Dark Horse Technology; the signing of a "Memorandum of Cooperation on the Digital Economy Industry" between Hong Kong Intelli Global Corporation and Beijing E-Hualu Information Technology, as well as a "Memorandum of Cooperation for Building a Digital Twin Hong Kong to Embrace Urban Innovation Opportunities" with Beijing 51WORLD Digital Twin Technology; and a cooperation agreement between Hong Kong Certizen Technology and the Beijing National Financial Standardization Research Institute, focusing on new developments in data security in the fintech sector. Additionally, Union Tech Software Technology presented its desktop operating system achievements and outlined its plans and progress for launching in Hong Kong.

Currently, the digital economy serves as a crucial engine for driving new productive forces. This forum further expands and deepens collaboration between Beijing and Hong Kong in key digital economy areas such as artificial intelligence and digital security, creating a robust platform for exchange and cooperation that will promote shared prosperity and development for both regions.
